Russian UN Envoy Comments on Abkhazia

Russian envoy to the UN Vitali Churkin, who holds the Security Council?s rotating presidency for January, said his country is ?not entirely happy? with the way the Georgian authorities had been implementing the Council?s resolution on Abkhazia.

He said that the Security Council will hold consultations on the Secretary-General?s progress report on the situation in Abkhazia on 24 January.

?We would like to hear some positive news as to how the Georgian side is complying with the requirements of the resolution, which requires Georgia to comply with all the relevant agreements,? Churkin said.
