Tbilisi Gears Up for New Year Party
Tbilisi Municipality will host the largest-ever feast in Georgia with huge traditional New Year dishes in downtown Tbilisi on December 31.
In Rike, in downtown Tbilisi, there will be a 1.5-ton cooking pot full of Satsivi, a dish with turkey in walnut sauce; a 25 square meter Gozinaki, walnuts candied in honey; and a 10 square meter Khachapuri, a cheese-filled flatbread.
Officials from the Tbilisi Municipality said the event has an ambition to join the Guinness book of records.
There will be pyrotechnics and a light show on Freedom Square, a few kilometers away from Rike, at midnight, followed by a three-hour long outdoor show.
Reportedly, the Tbilisi Municipality has allocated GEL 800 thousand (about USD 112 thousand) to fund the New Year activities in the capital city.
