MFA: Direct Talks with S.Ossetian, Abkhaz Sides a Priority

Direct dialogue with the Abkhaz and South Ossetian sides under the aegis of the UN and OSCE and ?through balanced international involvement? should become a cornerstone of the peace process next year, Georgian Foreign Minister Gela Bezhuashvili said on December 26.

?At the same time I want to stress that a change of the current peacekeeping and negotiating formats does not mean creating something new – it means the activation of already existing, but forgotten, mechanisms,? Bezhuashvili said at a news conference in Tbilisi.

He also said that the further consolidation of already existing international support towards Georgia, including with conflict resolution issues, will also top the country’s foreign policy in 2007.
