Turkey, Georgia Agree on Terms of Shah-Deniz Gas Quotas

The Georgian and Turkish Energy Ministers agreed in Ankara on December 23 on the terms of the redistribution of Shah-Deniz gas quotas, according to the Georgian Energy Ministry.

According to the agreement, Turkey will give up part of its share ? 800 million cubic meters of gas ? in favor of Georgia in 2007. In addition, Georgia will also receive its originally set share of 250 million cubic meters of gas.

The price has not yet been disclosed.

The import of Shah-Deniz gas to Georgia, which was scheduled to begin on December 22, has been delayed because of ?technical problems,? Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli said on December 22.

He added that ?it may take weeks to fix the problems,? so Georgia will have to mainly rely on Russian gas imports in the beginning of 2007.

Gazprom said on December 22 that it signed contracts with three companies in Georgia on the supply of a total of 1,1 billion cubic meters of gas in 2007. The price will be USD 235 per 1000 cubic meters.
