PM Says Azerbaijan to Become Georgia’s Major Gas Supplier

Azerbaijan will become Georgia’s major gas supplier in 2007, Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli told the government session on December 20.

He said that currently, talks on the re-allocation of Shah-Deniz gas between Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey are mainly focusing on “technical details.”

“Talks will be completed in a few days. You know President Saakashvili is currently visiting Turkey and is engaged in these talks. Now the talks are focusing on technical details and we will inform society about the results,” PM Nogaideli said.

PM Nogaideli said on December 13, while speaking at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at the Johns Hopkins University in Washington DC, that Georgia will “decrease dependence [on Russian gas imports] to 20%, or maybe to 0%, as we are progressing in our negotiations with Azerbaijan.”
