Controversial Georgian Peacekeeper Chief Removed

Paata Bedianashvili, who served as commander of the Georgian peacekeeping battalion in the South Ossetian conflict zone, was appointed chief of the Defense Ministry?s logistic and ammunition supply unit. It is not yet clear who will replace Bedianashvili.

Bedianashvili was appointed as the commander of the Georgian peacekeeping battalion, which is part of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces (JPKF), last August.

The South Ossetian side refused to cooperate with Bedianashvili and even denied him entry to Tskhinvali, where the JPKF headquarters is located, saying that Bedianashvili was among ?the organizers and active participants of Georgia?s military aggression against South Ossetia? in the summer of 2004.
