Former Guerrilla Leader Arrested

Police arrested Davit Shengelia, former commander of a now disbanded Georgian guerrilla group operating in the Abkhaz conflict zone, for alleged procession of a ?large amount of drugs,? the Georgian media sources reported on December 17.

The Georgian Public Broadcaster reported that Shengelia was arrested after police found heroin and methadone in his car in Tbilisi.

The guerrilla group Forest Brothers, which was led by Shengelia, was disbanded in early 2004 after pressure from the Georgian authorities.
