PM Comments on Gas Talks
Georgia will seek gas supplies from Iran if it fails to receive sufficient gas from Azerbaijan?s Shah-Deniz field, Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli told Rustavi 2 television in Washington.
?First of all, we are in talks with Azerbaijan and Turkey [over the redistribution of gas shares from the Shah-Deniz field] and only after these talks, if we need to, will we continue talks with Iran. It is clear for everyone that Georgia can not remain without gas in winter and we will have full understanding in this respect from our partners,? PM Nogaideli, who held talks with top-level U.S. officials in Washington, said.
U.S. Ambassador to Georgia John Tefft said in late November that a long-term strategic partnership between Georgia and Iran in energy issues would be unacceptable for the United States.
