Tbilisi-Loyal Group Calls on Saakashvili to Provide Rule of Law in South Ossetia

The Salvation Union of South Ossetia ? a Tbilisi-loyal group advocating the incorporation of the breakaway region into Georgia ? called on the Georgian President on November 30 to provide rule of law and security on the entire territory of South Ossetia.

?The regime in Tskhinvali, with the support of Russian military-criminal structures, aspires to provoke a new wave of bloodshed between Ossetians and Georgians. This scenario is in [South Ossetian de facto President] Kokoity?s interests in order to boost its support at the expense of a trustful population, the majority of which is no longer able to give a proper assessment to the condition they are living in and unable to appropriately respond to the false promises of Eduard Kokoity,? Vladimir Sanakoev, co-founder of the Salvation Union of South Ossetia, said in an address broadcasted by the Georgian televisions.

He said that different opinions are oppressed in Tskhinvali by the secessionist authorities.

?There should be a government in Tskhinvali which will enjoy the trust of both Georgians and Ossetians,? Sanakoev added.

The Salvation Union of South Ossetia was founded this October by ethnic Ossetians who are outspoken critics of Eduard Kokoity. The group organized a so-called alternative presidential election, with Tbilisi?s informal blessing, on November 12 ? parallel to those held by the secessionist authorities.

Dimitri Sanakoev was announced the winner of the alternative polls. The inauguration of Sanakoev is reportedly planned for early December, and some reports say December 1. The ceremony was originally scheduled for November 23 but later postponed for unspecified reasons.
