MPs Pass Proposal on Revenue Service at First Hearing
The parliament passed a draft law on the creation of a new body, the Revenue Service, at its first hearing on November 24 after heated debates.
The proposal envisages the merger of the tax department, customs service and the Financial Police into a new structure – the Revenue Service – under the Finance Ministry.
Opposition lawmakers protested that the Financial Police ? a body set up in 2004 to fight economic crimes ? has too much power.
MPs from the ruling party said that the draft law needs further improvements in a second hearing through clear definition and distribution of powers and competences of each of the three bodies within the new structure.
