Blast Injures Woman in Tskhinvali

A blast in the center of breakaway South Ossetian capital Tskhinvali wounded a woman on November 23, the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee reported.

According to the report, an explosive went off after a 52-year-old woman, Deliza Shortava, picked up a toy resembling a mobile phone and switched it on. She has lost her sight as a result of the blast.

Officials in Tskhinvali said it was a terrorist act staged by Georgian saboteurs.

In a statement the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee called on the population to be cautious. ?Be watchful and do not let your kids pick up toys found on the streets,? the statement reads.

Later on November 23 the breakaway region?s Interior Ministry said that the investigation is considering the possibility that the victim herself could have been linked to the terrorist act.

Breakaway South Ossetian Interior Minister Mikhail Mindzaev said that the blast could have occurred while Shortava was trying to charge an explosive.
