New Chief of Gas Corporation Resigns

General Director of the state-run Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation (GOGC) Irakli Chogovadze filed his resignation on November 18, just eight days after he was appointed to the position.

?I confirm that I have filed for resignation. I will continue my activities with the Georgian authorities, with the President, in another capacity,? Chogovadze told Imedi television, but did not specify his future role in the government.

Irakli Chogovadze was replaced by Irakli Okruashvili in the position of Economy Minister following a surprise cabinet reshuffle on November 10.

After this reshuffle, Chogovadze was appointed as chief of the GOGC, replacing Davit Ingorokva. The latter stepped down on November 10 after chief of the GOGC-affiliated Gas Transportation Company was arrested over suspected corruption transactions.

Chogovadze?s resignation follows Irakli Okruashvili?s November 17 decision to step down from the Economy Minister?s position.
