BP Shuts Baku-Supsa Pipeline
BP said on November 9 that it has stopped pumping oil through Baku-Supsa pipeline after discovering ?anomalies? in the pipe.
155,000 barrels of crude oil that has been transported through the pipeline from Azerbaijan to Georgia?s port of Supsa will now be redirected to the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline, which is also BP-operated – spokesperson of the BP office in Tbilisi Tamila Chantladze told Civil Georgia on November 9.
?In addition, the railway will also be used to ship this oil, so there will be no delays in shipments,? she added.
She also said that ?minor anomalies? were found on the pipeline in October during a routine maintenance inspection, and noted that this was a planned shut down.
Neither details of the ?anomalies? nor a date for the reopening of the pipeline have been disclosed. Reports say that problems were discovered at the Rustavi-Khashuri section of the pipeline.
