UN Mission Calls on Sokhumi to Stop Air Maneuvers

The UN Observer Mission in Georgia (UNOMIG) called on the secessionist authorities of Abkhazia not to stage joint air force and air defense exercises, saying that they could endanger civilian air traffic.

The breakaway region?s Ministry of Defense said it is planning to hold air maneuvers with the involvement of air defense systems from November 6-30.

?The Mission has made an appeal to the Abkhaz side to desist from actions that could directly or indirectly pose any risk to the normal operation of civilian aircraft,? UNOMIG said in a statement on November 7.
