Saakashvili Comments on Putin Georgia Remarks
President Saakashvili said on October 21 that his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin?s remarks about Georgia were absolutely groundless.
?[Putin?s statements] made me recall 1992 and a statement of [former Russian Defense Minister] General [Pavel] Grachyov, who said that Georgians painted their war planes [into Russian symbols] and they themselves are bombing their territories [in Abkhazia]. But there is a little difference: today is no longer 1992, we are in 2006; there is no longer [ex-Georgian President Eduard] Shevardnadze, now it is Saakashvili and different Georgia; and there is different Europe today as well. Europe, to which in previous years we had to explain where Georgia was on the map, now puts Georgia high on its agenda. There is no longer darkness in the international relations, everyone know everything very well. Of course some unpleasant things occur, but our truth will prevail anyway,? Saakashvili said.
