Burjanadze in Chisinau for GUAM Parliamentary Summit
Parliamentary speakers from the GUAM member countries ? Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova ? gathered at a summit in Chisinau, Moldova on October 15. Ukraine is represented by the Vice-Speaker of Parliament.
In her speech at the summit Nino Burjanadze, Chairperson of the Georgian Parliament, criticized Russia for a ?xenophobic? anti-Georgian campaign.
?Georgia is in a difficult situation and we need your strong support, we need serious support from the international community,? she said.
She will most likely discuss with the Moldovan authorities a decision of the Moldovan Parliament not to discuss a statement on Russo-Georgian relations.
On October 5 the parliamentary majority of President Voronin?s Communist Party turned down a proposal of the opposition to adopt a resolution expressing support towards Georgia in its current row with Russia.
