Talks Underway to Arrange Putin-Saakashvili Talks

Georgian Foreign Minister Gela Bezhuashvili said on July 21 that the talks are underway to arrange the meeting between the Russian and Georgian leaders, which will apparently take place in the near future.

?Unfortunately, as it was explained by the Russian side, due to the very tight schedule of the [CIS] summit it will not be possible to have a serious meeting between the two Presidents … a horse race [visiting track by the Presidents from the CIS countries was part of an informal summit in Moscow] is a good show, but it is not a place to discuss serious issues and take serious decisions. So, we will be working with the Russian side to set up a separate meeting between the two leaders in order to have tangible results because they are needed,? the Georgian Foreign Minister said.

He said that the Georgian side is well-prepared for the meeting of the two Presidents and Tbilisi is ready to put forth ?concrete proposals? which should help defuse tensions in bilateral relations.
