Official Speaks of Saakashvili’s Canceled Moscow Visit

Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Merab Antadze said on July 21, that it was impossible to arrange face-to-face meeting between the Russian and Georgian leaders in Moscow on a sideline of an informal summit of the CIS leaders, which became a reason for President Saakashvili’s visit postponement.

“The Georgian side made a decision not to pay a visit in frames of [CIS informal summit]. But we are consulting with the Russian side and we have agreed to plan a special meeting probably in the near future, where the Presidents will be able to discuss our proposals,” Antadze told reports in Moscow.

He was sent to the Russian capital on July 19 to arrange the meeting between the two Presidents.

President Saakashvili said on July 18 after the Parliament instructed the government to withdraw Russia peacekeepers from the conflict zones, that the Georgian government will take final decision about peacekeepers after his talks with Putin.
