Abkhaz Opposition Raises Railway with Parliament
The Forum of Abkhaz People?s Unity (FAPU), which includes three opposition parties and nine public movements, called on the breakaway region?s Parliament to immediately hold a special hearings on rehabilitation of the Russo-Georgian railway via Abkhazia, Apsnipress news agency reported on July 11.
The Forum of Abkhaz People?s Unity said in a statement on June 30 that an agreement on setting up of the international consortium on railway rehabilitation uniting the Russian, Georgian, Abkhaz and Armenian sides, pose threat to the Abkhazia?s sovereignty.
?Representatives of the FAPU are demanding from the Parliament to discuss the issue in the nearest future, but I can not take a decision independently. We are going to discuss all the details of this issue jointly with the President?s Administration and the government. The Parliament will react if there is something that might infringe our people?s interests,? Nugzar Ashuba, the Chairman of the Abkhaz Parliament said, after talks with the FAPU leaders.
He also said that the opposition should refrain from using economic issues for their political goals.
