Influential MP Says Opposition Uses ‘Language of Blackmail’

MP Giga Bokeria of the ruling National Movement party said on June 30 the opposition parties are using language of ultimatum and blackmail, which “will lead to nowhere.”

Leaders of seven opposition parties – New Rights, Republicans, Conservatives, Industrialists, Labor, Freedom and People’s Forum – signed a joint statement on June 30, in which they demanded holding of the election of the Tbilisi City Council – Sakrebulo through a proportional, party-list system, otherwise warned to boycott the local self-governance elections.  
 
“If any of these opposition parties do not wish to participate in the elections, this is their choice. Others will participate in the elections,” Bokeria told reporters.
