Lavrov Speaks of Relations with Georgia

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed hope that in the wake of the recent talks between the Russian and Georgian Presidents in St. Petersburg, the relations between the two countries will become more measured.

?We hope that the constructive and frank conversation in St. Petersburg will lead to understanding and during the forthcoming contacts – at the level of Foreign Ministries and other structures ? we will manage to advance towards balanced approaches, leading to the steady settlement of the conflicts,? RIA Novosti quoted Sergey Lavrov as saying on June 16.

Speaking with reporters in Almaty the Russian Foreign Minister said that Georgia?s refusal to sign an agreement on non-resumption of hostilities in South Ossetia triggers Moscow to think that Tbilisi?s statements over their willingness to settle the conflict through political means are not sincere.
