Constitutional Court Starts Hearings on Ex-MP’s Case
The Georgian Constitutional Court launched the hearing of a case on June 12 involving the Parliament’s decision to strip Valery Gelashvili, of the opposition Republican Party, of his MP credentials.
In May, the Constitutional Court ruled that the case filed by the former parliamentarian against the Parliament’s decision was admissible.
The parliamentary majority stripped Valeri Gelashvili of his MP credentials on March 31 after accusing him of being involved in the management of the construction firm Evra, which was founded by Gelashvili.
Opposition lawmakers claim that the Parliament’s decision was politically-motivated and the evidence put forth by the parliamentary majority to prove Gelashvili’s wrongdoings were marred by legal flaws.
