Wanted Ex-Security Chief’s Party Seeks Ties with S.Ossetian Leader

Wanted ex-security chief Igor Giorgadze has instructed Chief of his Justice Party’s Moscow branch Jemal Gogitidze to launch a dialogue with the breakaway South Ossetian leadership in an attempt to foster conflict resolution through public diplomacy, Interfax news agency reported on May 30.

“With this [move] Igor Giorgadze plans to thwart the plans [of the Georgian leadership] to lead the situation in Georgia to a civil war,” the Justice Party’s statement reads.

In the statement the party also condemned the May 27 incident in the South Ossetian conflict zone and called on the South Ossetian population for “patience.”

In an interview with the Georgian television station Rustavi 2, Igor Giorgadze said on May 25 that Georgians should vote for his pro-Russian Justice Party if Georgia wants to restore its territorial integrity.
