Gas Consumer Price Increases
Price for one cubic meter of gas in the capital city Tbilisi increased from 27 Tetri (approximately 15 cents) to 34 Tetri (approximately 18 cents), while in the regions – from 30 Tetri (approximately 16 cents) to 36 Tetri (20 cents) starting from May 1, 2006.
This increase became necessary after the Russian energy giant Gazprom increased gas prices for Georgia from USD 63 per 1000 cubic meters to USD 110 per 1000 cubic meters starting from January, 2006.
Last year the Georgian government allocated USD 19 million to subsidize the increased price of gas for the population until May 1.
