Georgia Develops National Strategy on Abkhazia
Irakli Alasania, the President’s aide for Abkhaz issues, said at a news briefing on March 22 that the government launched development of the national strategy on Abkhaz conflict resolution.
“Yesterday I held the meeting with State Minister [for Conflict Resolution Issues] Giorgi Khaindrava to discuss future plans. We launched the development of a national policy and strategy over the Abkhaz conflict resolution,” the President’s aide said.
“In the near future we plan direct contacts with the Abkhaz side to discuss the issues, which are important for the both sides, such as security, return of displaced persons, confidence building, as well as economic cooperation,” Alasania said.
In October, 2005 the Georgian Parliament instructed the government to submit a detailed roadmap over Abkhaz conflict resolution by May 1, 2006.
