Report: Britain Leads Support for Greater Role of EU in Georgia’s Conflicts
A group of 10-12 EU states, mainly new EU members as well as Great Britain, is supporting a increase of the EU’s role in the process of settlement of the conflicts in Georgia, RFE/RL reported on February 21 quoting unnamed EU source.
France is leading a group of countries, made up largely of southern EU member states, which consistently oppose a greater EU role in Georgia’s conflict resolution process, while Germany remains undecided in the debate, according to this report.
France also reportedly led the rejection by the EU of the idea of replacing the OSCE Border Monitoring in Georgia with an EU project last April.
