New Chairman of the CEC Nominated

President Saakashvili nominated Guram Chalagashvili for the position of Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Georgian media sources reported on February 9. It is now up to the Parliament to discuss this nomination.

Guram Chagelashvili, 28, is currently serving as the secretary of the CEC.

The position of the CEC Chairman has been vacant since December, 2005, when former Chairman Gia Kavtaradze was appointed Justice Minister.
