National Movement to Join European Conservative Group

Georgia’s ruling National Movement party is poised to join the European People’s Party (EPP) – formerly known as the Christian Democrats – in a transnational parliamentary group representing the interests of allied conservative parties in the European Parliament of the European Union (EU).

Member of the secretariat of the National Movement Irakli Kavtaradze told the daily 24 Hours that his party submitted an official application during a January 27-30 visit by the party officials to the Brussels.

Kavtaradze said the program of the National Movement was positively reviewed by EPP officials and that he expects a formal approval of their membership to follow.
