Georgian Official Comments on Iran Gas Deal

President of the Georgian International Gas Corporation Davit Ingorokva, who is currently in Azerbaijan, said Georgia will receive a total of 4-4,5 million cubic meters of gas via Azerbaijan per day.

?Currently Georgia receives 2-2,5 million cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan. Additional 2 million cubic meters will flow through this [Georgian-Azeri] pipeline after Iran starts gas supply, which will happen supposedly on January 29, or no later than January 30,? Davit Ingorokva told Civil Georgia on Saturday via phone.

This amount of gas will be enough for consumers in Tbilisi and for operation of two power plants.

Ingorokva, who is currently in Azerbaijan, said that he will travel on Saturday at the Azeri-Iranian border to personally attend ?technical rearrangements? on the Iranian-Azeri pipeline, which are necessary to carry out to make the gas flow.

He declined to specify price which Georgia will pay for Iranian gas and reiterated earlier statements by other officials that ?the price is symbolic.?

Ingorokva also did not rule out that Iranian gas might continue to flow into Georgia even after Russia restores blown up pipelines in North Ossetia.
