Official: Georgia to Import Iranian Gas for ‘Symbolic Price’

Georgian will import 2 million of cubic meters of gas from Iran per day, the Georgian Energy Ministry spokesperson said on January 27 but did not specify price of the Iranian gas.

“This will be a symbolic price,” Teona Doliashvili, the Energy Ministry spokesperson, told Civil Georgia.

President Saakashvili announced on January 27 that Iran will start supply of “minimally necessary” gas to Georgia starting from January 29, or January 30, but he also did not specify the price of gas.

“The price is very favorable for Georgia at this stage,” the Georgian President said.

Teona Doliashvili also said that after talks in Tehran Georgian Energy Minister Nika Gilauri headed to Baku on January 27 to negotiate transit of Iranian gas to Georgia via Azerbaijan.
