Georgian-Abkhaz Talks Launched
The UN-mediated Georgian-Abkhaz talks over security issues were launched in the Gali district of breakaway Abkhazia on January 24.
State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Giorgi Khaindrava represents the Georgian side, while the Abkhaz delegation is led unrecognized republic?s Foreign Minister Sergey Shamba.
Last week the talks were postponed twice due to bad weather conditions.
The Georgian State Minister said before talks that he plans to push the issue of security in the predominantly Georgian-populated Gali district.
?The situation in the Gali district is alarming. Violence escalates and unfortunately, it has already acquired ethnic signs… We will have a serious discussion over this issue,? Khaindrava told reporters.
