Georgia Receives Gas from Azerbaijan
Georgia started importing gas from Azerbaijan after two pipelines exploded in Russia’s North Ossetian Republic early on January 22.
“This import of gas from Azerbaijan was agreed to start at 9 pm [on January 22]. As a result, the gas supply will be resumed to part of Tbilisi tomorrow,” Irakli Gvichiani, top executive of the TbilGazi company, which distributes gas in the Georgian capital, told Imedi television.
He said that 3 million cubic meters of gas will be imported from Azerbaijan.
“2-3 million cubic meters of gas [per day] is needed for Tbilisi,” he added.
A representative to Georgia from the Russian energy giant Gazprom said earlier on Sunday that Gazprom was ready to increase its gas supply to Azerbaijan so that the latter could supply gas to Georgia.
