State Minister, U.S. Envoy Discuss South Ossetia
Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Giorgi Khaindrava met with U.S. Ambassador to Georgia John Tefft on January 19 to discuss the situation in breakaway South Ossetia.
Giorgi Khaindrava told reporters following the talks that the performance of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces stationed in the South Ossetian conflict zone was also discussed.
?We do not intend to either complicate the situation artificially [regarding the peacekeepers] or to simplify it,? Khaindrava said.
U.S. Ambassador John Tefft said that along with other interesting issues, an increase of the role of the OSCE in resolution of the South Ossetian conflict was also discussed. “U.S. Ambassador to OSCE Julie Finley arrives tonight and will be having a meeting with Minister Khaindrava on January 20,” the U.S. Ambassador added.
