Tbilisi Calls on Moscow to Finalize Agreement on Military Bases

In a statement issued on January 18 the Georgian Foreign Ministry called on Moscow to finalize an intergovernmental agreement on withdrawal of Russian military bases from Georgia.

On January 17 Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov hailed the agreement reached between the two countries on the withdrawal of Russian military bases from Georgia, however added that the Georgian side hampered the process by not issuing visas to the Russian servicemen.

The Georgian Foreign Ministry denied this accusation, claiming that ?Mr. Lavrov says nothing about the intergovernmental agreement prepared by the sides. The Georgian side is ready to sign this document, while the Russian side fails to implement internal procedures necessary for finalizing the document. Just the mentioned agreement regulates the issue of granting Georgian visas to Russian servicemen.?
