Saakashvili Hails Bird Flu Preventive Measures

President Saakashvili hailed measures undertaken by the authorities to prevent the arrival of the bird flu to Georgia during a meeting with Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli and Healthcare Minister Lado Chipashvili on January 14.


The two ministers briefed the Georgian President about the preventive measures being taken and said that additional special equipment is expected to arrive in Georgia in two weeks. The Healthcare Minister said that everything is being done to fully inform the public about the avian influenza risk.


PM Nogaideli said that seven special emergency offices are working throughout Georgia and are in charge of monitoring the situation in the regions. He said that more offices will be opened soon.


President Saakashvili said that the bird flu is ?a dangerous disease? but well-organized measures will prevent it from invading Georgia.  

Officials say that no cases of bird flu have been found in Georgia yet.
