Gazprom Executive Visits Georgia

Alexander Ryazanov, Deputy Chairman of the Russian energy giant Gazprom, who visits Georgia, holds talks with Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli on December 20.

Although Alexander Ryazanov refrained from making any comment upon his arrival, it is most likely that the issues related with gas supply and tariff will be discussed during the talks in Tbilisi. Starting from next year, Gazprom plans to increase the price of gas for Georgia from the current USD 63 to USD 110 per 1000 cubic meters.

PM Nogaideli visited Moscow in November and held talks with Gazprom top executives. After these talks Gazprom reported that an agreement was reached about tariffs, as well as about setting up of a joint venture ?for exploration and development of Georgia?s gas transportation system.? Gazprom also reported that an appropriate agreement was expected to be signed by the end of this year. Hence it is expected that the details of this agreement will also be discussed during the Gazprom?s top executive?s current visit to Tbilisi.
