New U.S. Embassy Opens in Tbilisi
The U.S. Embassy to Georgia celebrated on December 13 its move to the New Embassy Compound in Didi Digomi, a suburb of Tbilisi, with a plaque unveiling ceremony.
First Lady Sandra Roelofs, Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli, Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze, Tbilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulava and other high-ranking officials, diplomats and friends of the Embassy, attended the unveiling.
In his remarks, Ambassador John Tefft noted the excellent support the U.S. Embassy had received from the Georgian government.
According to a press release issued by the U.S. Embassy on December 13, the new Embassy is home to nearly 500 embassy staff, including approximately 400 Georgians and 100 Americans. Over 400 Georgian workers were also involved in the construction of the new Embassy.
