Georgia Hurries to Finalize ENP Action Plan Talks with EU

Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Valeri Chechelashvili said after talks with EU officials in Tbilisi on November 30 that Tbilisi wants to end the process of negotiations over Georgia?s Action Plan in frames of the EU Neighborhood Policy (ENP) ?as soon as possible.?

The first round of two-day talks between the Georgian and EU officials was held in Tbilisi on November 29-30 with the participation of Valeri Chechelashvili and Kurt Juul, the European Commission Head of Unit for the Southern Caucasus and Central Asia.

Kurt Juul said at a news conference in Tbilisi that the document serves to bring Georgia closer to EU standards.

Valerie Chechelashvili said that the priorities of the Action Plan developed by Georgia ?basically coincide with the EU’s key priorities.?

?Among the key priorities are: further development of democratic principles, human rights protection, peaceful resolution of conflicts, as well as boosting economic cooperation between Georgia and the European Union,? Chechelashvili said.

Georgia joined the European Neighborhood Policy in June 2004, along with Azerbaijan and Armenia.
