One Dies in Gali Shooting

One man was killed and another injured after unknown gunmen opened fire on a car in the village of Chuburkhinji in the Georgian-populated Gali district of breakaway Abkhazia on November 13, both the Abkhaz and Georgian agencies reported.

According to the Abkhaz news agency Apsnipress, a local prosecutor?s office in Gali has already initiated a criminal case for to the incident.

The UN Observer Mission in Georgia (UNOMIG) expressed concern in its statement on November 7 over ?the deteriorating security and human rights situation? in the Abkhaz conflict zone, ?which could lead to an escalation of tension on the ground.?
