Abkhazia Sets 2006 Budgetary Targets

Abkhaz government discussed draft 2006 budget on November 1, which sets budgetary revenues at 901 million Russian Rubles (approximately USD 31,4 million); expenditures will also amount the same sum, according to the Abkhaz news agency Apsnipress. No other details of the budgetary targets are reported.


In October, President of breakaway Abkhazia Sergey Bagapsh said that the unrecognized republic?s budget in 2005 amounted to 800 million Russian Rubles (approximately USD 28 million) adding that the budget will increase up to 1.2 billion Rubles (USD 42.1 million) by 2007.


In an interview with the Russian newspaper Vremya Novostey published on November 2 Sergey Bagapsh said that the Abkhaz government started to work effectively that led to increase of revenues in the coffers. ?Over one million tourists from Russia visited Abkhazia this year,? he said.
