Russia Wants Georgia to Enforce Anti-Aircraft System Agreement
On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the Foreign Ministry to secure the enforcement of an agreement on the control of portable anti-aircraft missile systems by the Georgian side, Russian news agencies reported.
Putin made a statement during a meeting with his government members in Moscow on October 31, after Russian Defense Minister Sergey Ivanov informed the Russian President that this agreement is in force in all the CIS member countries except Georgia and Turkmenistan.
When Vladimir Putin asked why this agreement is not in force in these two countries, Defense Minister responded: ?Turkmenistan has announced its neutrality and Georgia has signed [the agreement] but did nothing [to enforce it].?
?Bureaucratic delays might be [a reason behind this failure by the Georgian side to enforce this agreement]. So it is necessary to resume work with our Georgian colleagues [regarding this issue],? Vladimir Putin said.
