Tbilisi Hails U.S. Support for South Ossetia Action Plan
Georgian Foreign Minister Gela Bezhuashvili said on Sunday that the U.S. support for the Georgian side?s action plan to solve the conflict in South Ossetia is of ?extreme importantance for us.?
?The United States has for the first time expressed readiness to directly participate in the conflict resolution process in Georgia, which is of a extreme importance for Georgia,? Bezhuashvili said at a news conference in Tbilisi.
In a press statement issued on October 28 the U.S. Department of State welcomed Georgia?s action plan aimed at invigorating negotiations for a peaceful settlement of the South Ossetia conflict.
?We expect a similar positive response from Russia,? Bezhuashvili said.
The Georgian Foreign Minister also said that Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Giorgi Khaindrava will visit breakaway South Ossetia on October 31 to inform the local leadership about this plan.
?This plan says that our ultimate goal is to see South Ossetian autonomy within the Georgian state,? Gela Bezhuashvili said.
