Saakashvili: New Package of Bills to Boost Economic Growth
President Saakashvili said on October 28 that he plans to submit to the Parliament for consideration a new package of bills, which he hopes will foster the country?s economic growth. These initiatives will concern export-import procedures, the banking system and judiciary reform.
Saakashvili was speaking at the 70th session of Confederation of Asia-Pacific Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CACCI) and First Asian Business Forum in the Tran-Caucasus, which opened in Tbilisi on October 27.
?One proposal involves simplifying any kind of export-import procedures; the second one concerns liberalizing the banking system. Currently the banking system in Georgia is more liberal than in many of our neighboring countries, but I want full liberalization. Currently there are certain restrictions [in the banking system], some special permits are needed for foreign banks which want to start activities here? I want this restriction to be removed,? Mikheil Saakashvili said.
?The third [initiative] involves simplification of judicial procedures and improvement of this system so that a person can find justice there,? he added.
In his address President Saakashvili also spoke about the ongoing reforms in the country and called on the businessmen at the Forum to invest in Georgia.
