National Security Council Reform Planned
President Saakashvili said on Friday that he has not yet decided who will take over the position of Secretary of National Security Council, which remains vacant after Gela Bezhuashvili was appointed as new Foreign Minister on October 20. The President also said that he plans to reform the NSC.
?I had to make an urgent decision regarding the Foreign Ministry, as this Ministry could not have stayed without a head for a long time,? Saakashvili said at a news conference on October 21.
?I think that extra bureaucracy is not necessary. We will manage to simplify the structure [of the NSC] as much as possible. This does not mean that the National Security Council will be abolished or its role weakened. It will become a small, flexible structure,? the President added.
