Georgia Develops New Customs Code

Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli and other governmental officials met with a group of businessmen on October 10 to discuss a new draft law on the country’s customs service, which officials in the government want to be enforced beginning in 2006.

Prime Minister Nogaideli said that the new code is more liberal and will significantly simplify customs requirements. ?This means that more opportunities will be created for export, import and transit; hence more revenues in our budget,? he added.

The draft law will be discussed at the government?s session on October 12 and then submitted to the Parliament for approval.
