Saakashvili Supports Baltic, South Caucasus Cooperation

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili expressed hope that Georgia will manage to enforce s ?three plus three? format, which means the establishment of close cooperation between three Baltic – Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia – and three South Caucasian ? Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan – countries.

?Latvia is an important participant and a leader in the European integration processes in the whole region. We are ready to hold a summit in Tbilisi to support European integration and help these countries establish closer links with each other,? Saakashvili said at a joint news briefing with visiting Latvian President Vaira Vike-Freiberga in Tbilisi on October 5.

?Such contacts are very important for the strengthening of democracy in the region and for conflict resolution… We are going to continue intensive cooperation in the future as well,? the Georgian President added.

He also noted that in August the Georgian and Ukrainian Presidents signed the ?Borjomi Declaration? which means that Ukraine, Georgia, Romania, Lithuania and Latvia will meet in Kiev in December to discuss cooperation issues.
