Georgian Policemen Suspected of Abusing Ossetian Detainees
Georgian General Prosecutor?s Office and the Interior Ministry announced on October 3 that criminal charges will be brought against Georgian policemen suspected of abusing two Ossetians arrested on October 2 who are suspected of wounding two Georgian civilians after a shooting in the Georgian village of Berula in the South Ossetian conflict zone.
?Two detainees ? Ikayev and Zasayev – have suffered injuries [as a result of physical abuse]? Any policeman involved in human rights violations will be strictly punished,? Shota Khizanishvili, Chief of the Human Rights Department of the Georgian Interior Ministry, said at a news conference on Monday.
