PM Backs Justice Minister
Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli said on September 20, while commenting on the current standoff between Justice Minister Kote Kemularia and human rights groups, that Kemularia?s resignation is not on the present agenda and that the Minister has much more serious business to do than to spar with non-governmental organizations.
Justice Minister Kote Kemularia has been criticized in recent weeks by human rights groups, who are demanding his resignation over suspected mistreatment of ailing inmates in the country’s prisons and the corruption associated with inmate healthcare.
?Currently, a new prison is under construction in Kutaisi, a construction of new a prison in Rustavi will also be over soon and the Justice Minister has to deal with these issues and nothing more. He should not be engaged in sparing with non-governmental organizations,? PM Zurab Nogaideli told reporters.
