Abkhaz Foreign Minister Hails UN’s Role
Foreign Minister of breakaway Abkhazia Sergey Shamba hailed the UN’s role in Georgian-Abkhaz conflict resolution process and noted that negotiations between the Georgian and Abkhaz sides have “turned into a constructive discussion of the problems,” Apsnipress news agency reported on September 14.
“The UN spares no effort towards the creation of [favorable] conditions in the process of resolution of the complicated Georgian-Abkhaz conflict… Those who assess this conflict in a superficial manner are concerned with the fact that the UN has not yet solved the problem, but the resolution [of the conflict] is not [the UN’s] task,” Sergey Shamba said.
He also said that recently some positive signs have appeared in the peace process. “We have moved from diplomatic arguments to a constructive discussion of the problems,” he added.
