Two Civilians Released after Brief Abduction in South Ossetia
Unknown armed men kidnapped two civilians in the South Ossetian conflict zone after a convoy accompanying by the Russian peacekeepers was ambushed in Didi Liakhvi gorge in north of breakaway South Ossetian capital Tskhinvali on September 9.
Commander of the Georgian peacekeeping battalion in the conflict zone Mamuka Kurashvili told reporters in the evening on September 9 that two civilians, one of them ethnic Ossetian, were released shortly after abduction.
But Kurashvili refrained to reveal how hostages were released and who the abductors were. ?Investigation is underway and I can not say anything. I can only say that hostages are now free,? Kurashvili said.
